Size Guide
Find the right fit with the Norrøna Size Guide, including body measurements and fit recommendations.
For our Technical Fit garments (e.g., Lofoten and Lyngen), we recommend sizing up if you plan to wear multiple layers underneath. For our Regular Fit garments (e.g., Femund and Tamok), your usual size will generally be a good fit.
In many cases, yes. Norrøna systems are designed around layering principles, especially for outerwear like GORE-TEX® shells and insulated jackets. If you plan to wear a midlayer (e.g. fleece or down) underneath, we recommend sizing up to maintain mobility and comfort without restricting movement.
Our fits describe how the garment is designed to sit on the body and how much room it allows for movement and layering.
Our gear typically comes in either a Technical Fit (closer to the body for optimal performance and layering) or a Regular Fit (slightly looser for comfort and casual wear). For precise measurements and to help you choose the best size, please refer to the size guide on each product page.
You can find inseam lengths in our Size and Fit Guide on each product page. If the information is not detailed enough or you need help choosing the right fit, please contact our customer support team via live chat or email us at support@norrona.no
We recommend starting with your body measurements (chest, waist, hip, inseam) and comparing them to the Norrøna Size Guide.
Norrøna garments are designed for technical outdoor use, so fit is based on performance and layering rather than casual sizing. If you are between two sizes, consider:
- Choosing the smaller size for a closer, more athletic fit
- Choosing the larger size if you plan to layer underneath (e.g. fleece or insulation)
If you are unsure or would like more specific guidance, we encourage you to contact our customer service team at support@norrona.no, who can help you find the best size based on your needs and how you plan to use the product.
Tech and Materials
Learn more about the materials and technologies used in our products and how they are developed for outdoor performance.
Pertex Quantum® uses incredibly fine yarns, precisely woven to provide a very lightweight yet strong and durable fabric. Its softness allows down and synthetic insulation to fully loft, while the down-proof construction prevents the down from leaking through the face. The fabric is windproof.
GORE-TEX® products are designed for a wide range of outdoor activities and weather conditions. Their waterproof, windproof, and breathable construction provides reliable protection from rain, snow, and wind while helping regulate body temperature during movement. Whether you're hiking, skiing, mountaineering, trekking, commuting, or exploring in unpredictable weather, GORE-TEX® garments are built to keep you comfortable and protected.
If water stops beading, your garment’s Durable Water Repellent (DWR) needs refreshing. Use a spray-on DWR, like the Norrøna Water Repellent Tech Spray.
Polartec, LLC is the developer, manufacturer, and marketer of Polartec® performance fabrics. Polartec® products range from lightweight wicking base layers to insulation layers, to extreme weather protection and are utilized by the best clothing brands in the world.
BioNylon® is a highly sustainable biomass fabric made of castor bean – a crop which requires just a fraction of arable-land. The production of the yarn allows a significant reduction of carbon dioxide, in addition, to considerably reduce CO2 during the dyeing process.
The fabric offers the usual assets of PA such as hard-wearing properties, good flexibility, and comfort, but with shorter drying time.
This refers to the layers of the fabric. 3L (3-layer) is the most durable for extreme conditions, where the membrane is sandwiched between a face fabric and a backer.
PureOrganic™ Cotton is produced without the use of harmful pesticides, harsh chemical bleaches or dyes and is allergy-free. Today Norrøna uses 100 % organic cotton in all of our cotton products.
PureRecycled™ is a form of recycled polyester added to pureOrganic™ cotton for extra strength, durability, and faster drying.
Never store your gear compressed or in damp environments. For down products, hang them loosely on a wide hanger or store them in a large mesh "storage bag" (not a stuff sack) to maintain the loft. For Gore-Tex, ensure it is 100% dry and hung in a dark, cool closet to prevent UV degradation and permanent creasing of the membrane.
PrimaLoft®is a patented microfiber, that gives great thermal insulation to help the body maintain its temperature, minimizing energy loss. Extremely light, water repellent, soft and compressible, and originally developed by the US Army to replace natural down. As down absorbs moisture, it becomes wet and loses its thermal-insulating abilities. PrimaLoft® absorbs three times less water, is 14% warmer when dry and 24% warmer when wet, than the competitive insulation.
Aquaseal® zippers are a recent addition to YKK's watertight and water repellent product line. They are perfect for all sorts of gear where water and air tightness is a must. Smoother and more flexible, they offer optimum protection thanks to the film coated tape and the innovative zip element mechanism that seal the zipper completely. This is the first truly waterproof zipper provided on Norrøna products.
dri™ is Norrøna's lightweight, quick-drying fabric technology designed to efficiently transport moisture away from the body. It helps keep you dry and comfortable during high-output activities by offering excellent breathability, moisture management, and next-to-skin comfort.
Garments engineered with GORE-TEX® fabric are durably waterproof and windproof, combined with optimized breathability—enduring products that maximize protection and comfort for the wearer. Multiple fabrics and construction methods include insulated, non-insulated, 2-Layer and 3-Layer constructions.
Performance Rating
Whether you're gearing up for a hike, ski trip, or any other adventure, understanding how different layers perform is crucial.
Norrøna innerlayers are rated across key performance categories, including warmth, moisture management, weight, durability, warmth-to-weight ratio, stretch, and odor resistance. Learn more about what each rating means below.
Norrøna’s outerlayers are rated based on waterproofness, windproofness, durability, insulation, weight, and breathability. Learn more about what each rating means below.
Norrøna’s midlayers are rated on their performance based on their weight, durability, warmth, warmth-to-weight ratio, windproofness, moisture transportation, and stretch. Learn more about what each rating means below.
Norrøna products are assigned performance ratings to indicate their intended use, durability, and level of technical features. These ratings help you understand how a product performs in different activities and conditions, from lightweight and versatile use to highly technical, extreme mountain environments.
We rate outer layers (shell products), midlayers, and inner layers (baselayers) on a scale from 1-6 across key performance areas such as waterproofness, breathability, durability, warm-to-weight ratio, and weight.
