Published: Jan 6, 2026
Norrøna is committed to providing digital accessibility for everyone. We are dedicated to enhancing the overall user experience for everyone and are committed to adhering to relevant accessibility standards. This ensures that Norrøna is as user-friendly and accessible as possible. We are currently on a journey to be compliant to WCAG 2.1 AA and ADA guidelines and work consistently with improvements.
For us, universal design is about everyone’s rig
ht to participate and reduce digital exclusion. Our services must be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, functional ability, or education. We are aware of the types of adaptive technology used by people with disabilities and we are working toward ensuring compatibility with as many of these systems as possible. This includes keyboard navigation, screen readers etc.
Our website has several technical solutions that, to varying degrees, meet the requirements of accessible design. Among the things we use are ARIA attributes and semantic HTML to enhance the accessibility of our website. However, despite our best efforts to make Norrøna accessible to everyone, there are areas where we can improve. Below, you'll find a description of several key improvement points we are addressing and the actions we are taking to resolve them.
Short-term accesibility improvements:
- Provide alternative text for all images containing content not conveyed in text.
- Enhance navigation with different input devices and visibility to screen readers.
- Ensure all form errors and warning messages are accessible.
- Clarify our clothing collection color palette to all users
Long-term accessibility improvements:
- Development of a new online shop considering accessibility as a core concern.
- Enhance elements to ensure readability and functionality when text size is enlarged.
- Improved alt-texts for especially product photos to give a rich and detailed experience
Measures we take to support accessibility:
- Coach and educate the development team in WCAG, ADA, and accessible design.
- Assigning clear accessibility targets and responsibilities.
- Ensure sufficient color contrast for users with low vision.
- Use accessibility quality assurance methods, and also a tool that monitors a set of our pages on Accessibility functions (Accessibilitychecker.org)
