In February 1980, three Norwegian climbers – Hans Christian Doseth, Håvard Nesheim, and Kjetil Svanemyr – completed the first winter ascent of Svenskeruta on the towering Troll Wall (Trollveggen).
Over 13 days, they battled freezing temperatures, storms, and over 1,000 meters of steep, exposed climbing on what was considered one of Europe’s greatest alpine challenges.
The expedition also became an important proving ground for Norrøna’s pioneering trollveggen Gore-Tex jacket and pants, which were tested in the harsh conditions high above the valley floor.
The ascent remains one of the landmark achievements of Norwegian mountaineering and helped establish the Norrøna trollveggen collection as a symbol of innovation and performance in the mountains.
