Review Summary
Updated August 25, 2026

The Norrøna Lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Plus Pants are a premium, highly durable, and feature-rich shell pant primarily recommended for skiing, particularly freeride and resort skiing, as well as ski patrolling and some ski touring.

Standout Features: These pants are lauded for their exceptional durability and robust construction, utilizing Gore-Tex Pro Plus fabric for superior waterproofing and wind protection in harsh conditions. Reviewers consistently highlight the thoughtful placement and abundance of pockets, providing ample storage. A key feature is the extensive and effective ventilation system, including inner thigh vents, cargo pocket vents, and even small back thigh vents, which are crucial for managing temperature during high-exertion activities or warmer days. The removable bib attachment is a significant advantage, offering added protection from snow and rain, warmth, and convenient pockets (including one for an avalanche transceiver), while also allowing for a more traditional pant fit. Many users praise the overall quality of materials and design, often comparing them favorably to other top brands.

Common Use-Cases: The most frequently mentioned activity is skiing, encompassing a wide range of styles. They are particularly recommended for freeride and resort skiing due to their "bomber" construction, protection from elements, and ample features. Ski patrolling is another prominent use, with one reviewer highlighting their confidence-inspiring durability for daily, all-weather use and tree runs. While some reviewers mention ski touring, it's often noted that the pants are on the heavier and stiffer side, making them better suited for winter touring in challenging conditions rather than lighter spring missions. They are also used for snowboarding and telemark skiing.

Fit and Comfort Level: The fit is generally described as slim or Norwegian fit, with a long inseam. While some find it true to size, many reviewers suggest it runs a bit small, especially in the waist and glutes/upper thighs, leading some to size up. However, sizing up can result in a baggier fit. The articulated design allows for good freedom of movement despite the heavy-duty fabric. The mesh bib is noted for providing comfort without overheating. Some taller individuals (e.g., 6'2", 192cm) find the length slightly short when sitting or with knee protectors, wishing for a longer option.

Criticisms or Areas for Improvement: The most common criticism revolves around the bib zipper, which is described as too delicate, small, and prone to coming unthreaded, making it difficult to manage with gloves. Several reviewers also express confusion about a "mystery" or "tiny" zipper on the upper right leg, which is later clarified as being for a mountaineering harness. Some users desire internal keychain attachments in all pockets for securing items like beacons. The price point is frequently mentioned as high, though many conclude it's "worth the money" for the quality. There are isolated reports of durability issues like seam failures, peeling edge protection, or zipper pulls breaking, though Norrøna's warranty service is generally praised for being responsive. The pants are also noted as being heavy and stiff, which can be a drawback for extensive uphill ski touring.

Recommendation: The Norrøna Lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Plus Pants are highly recommended for serious skiers, freeriders, resort enthusiasts, and ski patrollers who prioritize uncompromising durability, superior weather protection, and a feature-rich design for challenging mountain conditions. They are ideal for those who spend significant time on the slopes, often in deep snow or adverse weather, and require a robust shell that can withstand heavy use and abrasions. While suitable for winter ski touring, those focused on lighter, faster ascents might find them a bit heavy. This product is for individuals willing to invest in a top-tier garment designed to last for many seasons, understanding that the fit might require careful consideration and potentially sizing up.

I bought these bibs out 2 months ago and have worn them a dozen times in snow, rain, and warming temps. They are great. My prior bibs were Arcteryx. The Lofoten have more pockets, better venting and better fabric.

Have been skiing in my new Norrona lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Plus kit for about 4 weeks now and it does not disappoint. Technical materials, great quality, lot of features and pockets, and feels extremely durable. Had had many kits from Flylow, Arc’teryx, Patagonia, etc. but Norrona is my new go-to brand. Their thoughtful design and high end materials are as good as it gets. Only complaint is I had to go up to a size XL - typically a L in aforementioned brands - and both the jacket and pants are a bit long for me (6’2”).
