In 1988, Trond Hilde and his climbing partners ascended Yerupajá (6,635 m) in Peru, one of the most spectacular and technically demanding mountains in the Andes.
Rising sharply above the Cordillera Huayhuash, Yerupajá has long been regarded as one of South America’s great alpine challenges, combining altitude, steep terrain, and unpredictable mountain weather.
Throughout the expedition, the team relied on Norrøna’s renowned trollveggen clothing system for climbing and mountaineering, developed and refined through years of testing in Norway’s harsh mountain environment.
The climb became another example of how Norwegian climbers were bringing Norrøna equipment to some of the world’s most demanding peaks, while helping validate and further develop products designed for serious alpine adventures.
