In 1983, the Norwegian climbers Hans Christian Doseth, Håvard Nesheim, and Frode Guldal, and the Polish climbers Janusz Skorek, and Andrzej Czok, achieved the first ascent of the formidable East Buttress of Thalay Sagar (6,904 m) in the Indian Himalayas.
Considered one of the most elegant and challenging peaks in the Garhwal region, Thalay Sagar would later earn a reputation as one of the world’s great alpine objectives.
The expedition represented a major achievement in Norwegian mountaineering and highlighted the increasingly international nature of elite climbing during the golden age of Himalayan exploration.
Throughout the climb, the team relied on Norrøna’s renowned trollveggen clothing, and other technical mountain equipment, putting the products to the test in steep alpine terrain, extreme altitude, and rapidly changing Himalayan weather.
The successful ascent further strengthened the bond between Norrøna and the pioneering climbers who helped shape modern Norwegian mountaineering, while proving that equipment developed in the mountains of Norway could perform on some of the world's most demanding peaks.
