In Easter 1979, four Norwegian climbers completed the first winter ascent of Jubileumsveggen, a nearly 1,000-meter wall on Store Midtmaradalstind in the heart of Jotunheimen.
The team – Hans Christian Doseth, Finn Dæhlie, Ulf Geir Hansen, and Kjetil Svanemyr – spent seven days hauling equipment, establishing camps on snowy ledges, and climbing through ice-covered rock, storms, and sub-zero temperatures.
Their ascent of the legendary route, first climbed in 1968, became one of the landmark achievements of Norwegian winter alpinism and a testament to the bold expedition-style climbing that defined the era. The climbers had the brand new Norrøna trollveggen Gore-Tex jackets and pants on them.
