The Winter Runner

Gift Guide · Trail Running

Some runners retreat to the treadmill when winter hits. Others just quit running during the cold, dark months. And then there's the third category. Bursting out into the snow. With the stoke of a little kid. This is the original winter warrior.

A person wearing a blue Norrøna jacket and pants runs on a snowy road, surrounded by snow-covered trees.

Midlayer

On the coldest days, a thin fleece or light insulated vest adds warmth without slowing them down.

T-shirt/Long sleeves

The long-sleeve base layer is the foundation of every winter run. Its job is to move sweat away so they stay warm when they slow down.

Socks

Thin wool running socks keep feet warm on snowy trails and handle slush better than synthetics alone.

A running vest carries water, phone and a spare layer on longer runs. Fit matters more than volume, since it shouldn't bounce.
