2006The Winter Ski Expedition to the North Pole

A close up of a person's face covered in frost and ice. They are wearing a red jacket and have a hat pulled down over their head. The background is a solid blue sky. The person appears to be very cold.

Børge Ousland and adventurer Mike Horn completed one of the most audacious polar expeditions ever attempted, skiing to the North Pole during the Arctic winter.

Traveling in complete darkness for much of the journey, the two explorers faced extreme cold, unstable sea ice, and the constant threat of open water and polar bears in one of the harshest environments on Earth.

The expedition pushed both men and equipment to their limits.

Ousland relied on Norrøna expedition clothing and gear, helping validate product solutions designed for prolonged exposure to extreme Arctic conditions.

The journey also provided valuable experience that would influence the continued development of Norrøna’s polar equipment and the arktis collection.

Widely regarded as one of the most demanding expeditions in modern polar history, the winter journey to the North Pole further cemented Ousland’s reputation as one of the world's leading explorers and demonstrated what is possible through meticulous preparation, resilience, and innovation.
