Review Summary
Updated February 19, 2026

The Lofoten Primaloft80 Anorak is a highly versatile and warm insulated anorak, primarily recommended for skiing and ski touring. Its standout features include exceptional warmth-to-weight ratio, excellent ventilation, and a well-thought-out design.

Standout Features: Superior Warmth & Insulation: Utilizing Primaloft80 insulation, the anorak provides significant warmth, often allowing users to wear just a base layer underneath in temperatures ranging from 0 to -15°C (and even lower with additional layers). Many reviewers highlight its ability to keep them warm even in cold, windy conditions. Exceptional Ventilation: A key feature is its extensive ventilation system, including long two-way zippers from the armpit to the waist/hem, and a deep chest zipper. This allows for efficient heat dumping during high-output activities, making it adaptable to varying temperatures and exertion levels. Anorak Style with Practicality: While an anorak, the long side zippers make it surprisingly easy to put on and take off, addressing a common concern with this style. Ample Storage: It boasts numerous well-placed pockets, including large chest pockets (often big enough for skins or a phone) and a pass-through hand-warmer pocket that can be used even with a backpack hip belt. An inner pocket for an avalanche transceiver is also noted. Windproof & Water-Resistant: The anorak is consistently praised for its windproof capabilities. While not fully waterproof, it offers good water resistance (DWR), holding up to light rain for a period, though a hardshell is recommended for wet conditions. Comfortable Fit & Design: Reviewers frequently commend its comfortable fit, often described as roomy enough for layering without being baggy. The longer back provides extra coverage, and PowerStretch cuffs are a popular detail. The hood is generally large, often fitting over a helmet, though some find the visor annoying.

Common Use-Cases: The most frequently mentioned activity is skiing and ski touring, encompassing resort skiing, backcountry skiing, and cross-country skiing. Users appreciate its warmth, ventilation, and ability to accommodate layers. Beyond skiing, it's highly valued for general outdoor activities in cold weather, hiking, commuting, and even casual everyday wear due to its stylish appearance and comfort. It functions effectively as both an outer layer in dry, cold conditions and an insulating mid-layer under a hardshell for more severe weather.

Fit and Comfort Level: The anorak is generally described as having a comfortable, athletic fit that allows for layering without being overly baggy. Some reviewers note it runs slightly large, suggesting it's designed with layering in mind. The material is soft and comfortable against the skin. However, one reviewer found it too tight in the armpits and emphasized their belly, suggesting it might not suit all body types, especially those who are not "Scandinavian skinny" or prefer a looser fit without stretch.

Criticisms or Areas for Improvement: Zipper Quality: The most common criticism revolves around the zippers, particularly the pit zips and sometimes the main chest zipper. Reviewers report them being thin, difficult to operate with one hand, prone to snagging, or getting stuck. DWR Performance: Some users found the DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating to be inadequate, requiring self-treatment for better water beading. Durability of Shell Material: A few reviewers noted that parts of the shell material are fairly thin, raising concerns about its toughness against abrasion from branches or falls during activities like skiing. Pocket Design: One user found the chest pockets problematic, with items easily falling out when bending over. Hood Visor: The hood's visor is occasionally mentioned as annoying, with one user folding it under. Discontinuation: Several reviewers express disappointment that the product appears to be discontinued, highlighting its popularity and effectiveness.

Recommendation: The Lofoten Primaloft80 Anorak is highly recommended for avid skiers and ski tourers seeking a warm, versatile, and well-ventilated insulated layer that can double as an outer shell in dry, cold conditions. It's also an excellent choice for anyone engaging in various cold-weather outdoor activities who values a comfortable, windproof, and highly breathable anorak with ample storage. This product is ideal for those who prioritize warmth-to-weight, intelligent design, and effective temperature regulation, and are willing to overlook minor zipper quirks for its overall performance and comfort.

Have worn the Lofoten numerous times over the past month on my morning hikes in the foothills of Colorado. It’s comfortable, fairly warm for high output activities. (Many mornings I’m out and the temps are in the teens to low 20’s. Fahrenheit- with just a baselayer underneath and I’m sweating! Even with all the amazing ventilation. 2 way zips from pita to waist, plus a deep chest zipper. Lots of pockets which I love. Great jacket overall. My only complaints- are the “pit zips.” They’re very difficult to unzip down and up as they are very thin zippers. The hood is HUGE! Even for a helmet. And the visor is annoying. I just fold that under. The DWR isn’t great. I had to do it myself as water wasn’t beading off. Part of the shell material is fairly thin. I much makes it light but definitely not tough for rubbing against branches etc or even falling while skiing or boarding. Otherwise love it.

I really like the anorak style, the long underarm zipper and all the pockets. It works well alone but is also perfect with eg. the Lofoten gore tex anorak. Very good active insulation as you can vent nicely. Sad most anoraks got discontinued
