What is S/Y Varg?
S/Y Varg is Norrøna’s expedition sailing yacht — a floating basecamp for small groups exploring the fjords, mountains, and coastline of Northern Norway. Named after the Norwegian word for wolf, Varg is powerful, purposeful, and entirely at home in the wild.
The yacht was purpose-built for adventure, combining serious offshore sailing capability with the comfort and gear needed for multi-day wilderness expeditions. Every trip is led by experienced Norrøna-certified guides who know these waters and mountains intimately, and the full Norrøna equipment range is available onboard.
Adventures on the water and in the mountains
What makes Varg unique is the combination of sailing and land-based adventure. The fjords of Northern Norway open access to terrain that simply cannot be reached any other way — remote peaks, untouched couloirs, and hidden anchorages with no roads leading to them.
In spring, Varg operates as a ski touring platform. As the yacht sails between anchorages, guests skin up from sea level to peaks rising directly from the fjord — one of the purest expressions of ski touring in the world. In summer and autumn, the focus shifts to hiking and mountain biking, with Northern Norway’s long days and dramatic landscapes providing exceptional conditions for both. The itinerary follows the best terrain and the best weather, day by day.
The Norrøna difference
Varg is more than a charter yacht. It is the expression of almost a century of Norrøna expedition heritage — from early polar crossings to the ski touring culture that inspired the lyngen and svalbard collections. The guides who lead Varg trips bring that same depth of knowledge to every journey.
Groups are small by design. With a maximum of 8 guests, every trip is personal, and the route adapts to conditions, group ambitions, and the kind of unexpected moments that define the best adventures.
