Mountain Bikingfjørå

2008The first fjørå collection

A person in Norrøna gear rides a mountain bike on a trail through a forest.

Introduced in 2008, Norrøna fjørå marked the beginning of a new category dedicated to mountain biking.

Named after the tiny village of Fjørå in Sunnmøre, where local riders had discovered exceptional trails descending from Mt. Mefjellet and following old routes between the fjord and historic mountain farms, the collection brought Norrøna’s technical, user-driven approach to the world of singletrack.

In 2009, the now-legendary fjørå shorts arrived, featuring zippered side ventilation and a range of mountain bike-specific details. But something unexpected happened: the shorts escaped the trails. Their distinctive look, comfort, and functionality made them a favorite far beyond the mountain bike community – suddenly, everyone seemed to want a pair, whether they rode singletrack or not.
