If you're ever in the Oslo area, stop by Norrøna House and say hello to Carl.
Name: Carl
Job Title: Store Manager of Norrøna House Flagship/ Former Store Manager of Norrøna Concept CC Vest
From: I’m originally from Lofoten.
Favorite outdoor activity: There are so many. During the winter I like to cross country ski. In the summer, it's a lot of hiking and trail running. I have two dogs so I do all activities I can involve them in.
So Carl, how long have you been working with Norrøna?
I started at the Norrøna Outlet store in Vestby in 2015. At that time I also worked part time in the Oslo store. Then I got an offer for the Store Manager position in CC Vest in 2018.
How did you get the job?
I was just scrolling through open positions on the Norwegian job site, Finn.no, when at a time when I was nearly finished studying business administration in Oslo, and a store position for Norrøna popped up. My mom had quite a few products from Norrøna and I knew the quality, so I put in an application and was called in for an interview shortly after.
As the new Store Manager of Norrøna House, what would you say you’re most excited to share with customers?
I’m really looking forward to showing off the Storm Lab which is an in-store testing facility that both our customers and in-house product developers can use to test the strength and quality of a product. Customers will be able to test both new and used products and receive both photos and a video of their experience.
Also, I think the new RE concept is quite interesting. Especially REuse, our new Second Hand store. All these garments are ready to have another life and I’m excited to help their story continue on to the next owner.

What is your all-time favorite Norrøna product?
The very first product I ever owned were the falketind Gore-Tex pants which I received as a gift when I was 14. I basically lived in them for 16 years! I used them for snowboarding and biking. For everything really.
This is quite a hard question because we have a lot of great products. But I would have to say the bitihorn alpha60 jacket is my all time favorite. It’s so breathable and quick drying and superlight. It feels almost weightless and looks cool. Unfortunately, we no longer sell it which makes it even more of a unique piece. And customers are always asking about it, so it would be great if it made a comeback one day. A good alternative that's very similar to the bitihorn is the falketind aero60 Hood.
Also if I could choose one more, it would be the tamok wool shirt. I use it everyday and have it in all colors.
Which tech material are you most interested in letting a customer know about?
It’s probably the Polartec Alpha. Just the quality and functionality is so impressive. It’s very breathable and provides a lot of warmth.
In your eyes, what is going to make a new retail employee succeed?
I look for people who are curious. They have to want to know how the materials work and how you can use them for different occasions. Also being curious about getting to know customers and what activities they like to do. It’s really all about wanting to get to know the people and the product.
What’s the most common question you get from customers?
We get a lot of questions about our base layers and if they are actually made with 100% Merino Wool. They are so soft and delicate. Norwegians are used to the more rugged and itchy wool which is likely why they are so skeptical of our 100% Merino label.

After all these years, do you still get excited about new products?
Oh yes. Always! It’s really fun to unpack during the seasonal switch and unpack the products. It almost feels like Christmas Eve.
All Norrøna stores accept products to be sent in for repair if it is needed. Do you have any cool repair stories from customers you would like to share?
There have been so many. For me it’s not the big repairs, but it’s the smaller fixes we do in store. Customers are always thrilled when we fix a zipper or fix a button right away.
