How to pack for hunting

The shifting conditions of the hunting season require durable, breathable and weather protective clothing as well as the right equipment for the best experience. Norrønas hunter Martin Blom gives you his best tips on how to pack.

"How I pack and what I wear for hunting depends on what I hunt, where I hunt, what kind of weather and temperature, for how long I will be out, etc." But here are some guidelines:

1. Shotgun/rifle

2. Hunting permit, license, ID

3. Extra ammunition

4. Pants – Type is depending on weather and temperature

Finnskogen hybrid for dry days. Finnskogen Gore-Tex for cold days or wet forest hunting that requires silent clothing. Kvinnherad for rough conditions, rain and cold days. Recon for all kind of weather, hunting above tree level and hunting that does not require silent clothing.

5. A mid layer to wear around the campfire or put on when I sit down

6. I prefer to wear a cap to avoid the sun in my eyes

7. A microfiber neck/buff – to keep warm and also to camouflage my face when approaching animals

8. A pair of Merino wool socks

9. Finnskogen integral Pack 40L – space for everything I need to bring for a day out hunting except when I need to carry meat. Then I prefer recon synkroflex Pack 125L  that is great when I carry more than 25 kg.

10.Wool longs for cold days

11.Wool t-shirtworks well both summer and winter

12. Binoculars – most often when I hunt with a rifle

13. Jacket - depending on weather and temperature

Finnskogen hybrid for dry days. Finnskogen Gore-Tex for cold days and wet forest hunting that requires silent clothing. Kvinnherad for rough conditions, rain and cold days. Recon for all kind of weather, hunting above tree level and hunting that does not require silent clothing.

14. An ax for collecting and chopping firewood

15. Coffee pot

16. wooden cup for hot drinks

17. leather bag for coffee

18. A pair of gloves. Finnskogen Windstopper Gloves is my favorite because of the finger trigger hole and leather grip. When hunting in the mountain I use Finnskogen dri gloves.

19. A knife will always be in my belt

20. Lighter or matches to light a fire

21. Any kind of frying pan or toast pan

22. A Sitting pad. Did you know the kvinnherad Parka have space for a sitting pad in the back?

23.A walkie-talkie if needed

24. Headlamp/torch

25. Extra batteries for headlamp and GPS

26. Strips for gutting animals

27. Some kind of straps for pulling animals

28. Leather bag to store all small things

29. GPS

30. A small strap for pulling animals

31. First aid kit
