Review Summary
Updated June 1, 2026

The Norrøna Lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Plus Jacket is a robust and versatile shell designed for demanding outdoor activities, with skiing emerging as its primary recommended use.

Standout Features: This jacket boasts solid quality construction and a design that accommodates a wide range of conditions. Key features include a larger hood for enhanced protection, horizontal lower front pockets that securely hold contents, and extensive ventilation options with underarm, overarm, and front zippers (the latter not extending all the way up for improved comfort). It also features a dual front zipper, useful for harness access, and additional triceps vents for targeted airflow.

Common Use-Cases: While suitable for everyday use, the jacket truly shines in more strenuous activities. Reviewers highlight its utility for skiing (both resort and touring), pulling sleds, and hiking with a large rucksack. Its ability to carry essentials like gloves, food, and ski skins within its pockets without needing to stop is particularly valued during these activities. The extensive ventilation system makes it adaptable to various temperatures, though it can become warm above 17-20°C depending on activity.

Fit and Comfort: The jacket is described as having a slightly longer cut than previous models, which some find beneficial. However, one reviewer found it excessively long in both sleeves and torso (3-4 cm longer than the Pro Lofoten in a size large), potentially covering pant pockets and resembling a "trench coat" on individuals even at 187 cm. It's recommended to size up slightly if you prefer to layer or carry many items in your pockets. The weight, at 844 grams, is noticeably heavier than some comparable options, which might be a consideration for those prioritizing ultralight gear.

Criticisms and Areas for Improvement: The most significant and recurring criticism is the main front zipper. It's described as "sensitive," requiring precise alignment to connect and prone to getting stuck. This issue led to a warranty claim on a previous model for one reviewer, raising concerns about its long-term durability. Another minor point of contention is the "watch zip," which some find unnecessary, especially for left-handed users. The jacket's weight and excessive length for some body types are also noted as potential drawbacks.

Recommendation: The Norrøna Lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Plus Jacket is highly recommended for avid skiers and winter outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize durability, extensive ventilation, and ample storage for essentials during demanding activities. It's ideal for those who frequently engage in resort skiing, ski touring, and winter hiking, and who are willing to accept a slightly heavier jacket for its robust features. This product is best suited for individuals who can tolerate a potentially long fit or who are tall enough to accommodate it, and who are prepared to be mindful of the main zipper's sensitivity.

this is just what I've long wanted - I expect it to be the only ski jacket I'll ever own, so have chosen what seems to be the best available - remarkably good fit for me (192cm with very long arms!)

I had the previous model of this jacket, and was very happy with it. Got a new one approx. 1 month ago due to a warranty issue on the front zipper for the previous model. A few differences are bigger hood, thumbs up from me, and now horizontal lower from pockets instead of vertical. I was first sceptic, as it was easier to have my hands in a vertical zipper pocket. But now, with horizontal zipper, contents in the pockets stays there while zipper is open and hands fit there as well. The main benefits of this jacket is that it is of solid quality, that it covers a wide range of activities and in quite various weather/temperatures. I live in South-West of Norway. This is possible due to the openings under arms, over arms and in the front. The zipper for the front ventilation is on this model not going all the way up, which is a plus for me. This model might be a little bit longer than previous model, which is fine for me. For me, this jacket can get to warm when raining and above approx. 17-20 °C. Depending on type of activity. I like to have a jacket like this a little large so that it is possible to fill pockets and still do activities. Everything from my own gloves, food, balaclava, my kids' stuff, skins for skis etc. When skiing and pulling sleds, hiking with big rucksack and so on, it is extra valuable to have all the basics in my jacket without having to stop. The weight of the jacket is no problem for me. I will have to take the downside at the end, and that is the main zipper. It is quite "sensitive" in terms of how accurate you have to be when connect the zipper and how easy the zipper can get stuck. Similar issue caused a claim/warranty for my last model of this jacket. I hope the zipper will get better by itself in the coming period. Jacket is fine for everyday use. Maybe a "Trollveggen Pro"-type of zipper would be better for this jacket with thicker materials?

To preface, I haven’t actually used this jacket outdoors yet. I ordered it as a potential replacement for my Mammut Eiger Free Pro after someone was unfortunately smoking behind me when I was seated at lunch, and disbursed ash ember into the back of my jacket, burning holes throughout the back. This jacket stood out because it has several features I prefer over the Pro Lofoten. The extra horizontal chest pockets are a big plus for me when resort skiing without a pack—they’re perfect for storing liners, over-mitts, or small essentials. It also has a dual front zipper like the Eiger (but unlike the Pro Lofoten), which makes it easier to access a harness. The added vents on the front and triceps could be useful when you want some airflow without opening the pit zips fully. On the other hand, the “watch zip” feels unnecessary—especially since I’m left-handed and wear my watch on my right wrist. The downsides are worth mentioning. First, the weight: at 844 grams, it’s noticeably heavier than the Eiger or Pro Lofoten, both of which are closer to ~650 grams. Even for resort-accessed touring, I’d prefer a lighter option. The bigger issue, though, is the cut. The jacket runs very long in both the sleeves and torso—easily 3–4 cm longer than the Pro Lofoten in a size large. Paired with the Lygen pants, it actually covers the horizontal pocket zips and starts to look more like a trench coat, even on me at 187 cm. It feels excessively long compared to other Norrona jackets I’ve owned or tried, and I’m not sure what functional purpose it serves unless you are very tall. Had this jacket been a little lighter and shorter, I would have opted for this jacket, however, due to these issues I ended up choosing the Mammut Eiger Pro again.
