The Art of Five LayersHow to dress for freeriding

In snowy mountains, knowing how to dress is key. We've spent decades perfecting the science of layering. We call it The Art of Five Layers – and here's how it works.

1. Base Layer

Keeps you dry

The layer against your skin sets the tone for everything else. Wool is our first choice – it insulates, regulates body temperature, wicks moisture, and naturally resists odor.

2. Mid-layer

Keeps you warm

Your fleece mid-layer is lightweight, warm, and quick to dry, perfectly balancing warmth and breathability to regulate body temperature during activity.

3. Wind/Waterproof Shell

Keeps you protected

The shell is your uncompromising shield against the storm. Built with world-leading membranes, it keeps snow, rain, and wind out while letting sweat escape.

4. Breathable Insulation

Keeps you comfortable

When temperatures drop, add a breathable insulation layer – under, over, or instead of your shell. It's both warmer and more breathable than a shell jacket.

5. Insulation

Keeps you safe

For breaks or summits, you need serious warmth. A down insulation jacket provides the best warmth-to-weight ratio. It's not just for comfort; it's a vital safety lifeline in emergencies.
