Ludwig Karrsch grew up in the Bavarian foothills of the alps. In the age of 11 it occurred to him that hiking alone means pure boredom, even though he was trying hard it just didn't make any sense. That's when he discovered climbing and mountaineering. After some intense years he became a mountain guide and have worked fulltime ever since.
It doesn’t matter how hard you climb or how good you ski – as long as you’re having the fun of your life you're on top of your game.
The one thing that hasn’t changed in all those years is that to me, going into the mountains still doesn’t make any sense. Nobody cares. We do it only only for ourselves, the fun about it and the adventure. So it doesn’t matter how hard you climb or how good you ski – as long as you’re having the fun of your life you're on top of your game.
I consider it a huge privilege to make a living from what I love
What made you go all in and pursue this as your lifestyle?
For me it’s the natural thing to do – I consider it a huge privilege to make a living from what I love.
What drives you?
The curiosity to find out whats around the next corner.
In what way does your sport push the limits?
Since my sport is my profession its sort of hard to answer. Besides many other things, to me guiding means enabling others to pursue their dream. So, I try my best to make my clients happy and I so to say push the limits in ‘delivering’ the perfect day 😉
Who inspires you?
Not the best, but the most happy climbers
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Still out there enjoying, discovering and guiding. Probably also changing diapers..
What does nature mean to you?
Nature is my office, my playground and my recovery place. I would call it my home and certainly place to be. When you are out in nature, otherwise important things like your bank account balance, politics and many other things become irrelevant. The moment you are in, is all that matters…
Describe a typical day in your life.
Get up, warm up the espresso machine, shower, stretch if I don’t forget, enjoy a good cappuccino with some quite minutes, pack my stuff for skitouring, climbing or mountaineering, meet my client, be at the right place at the right time, hopefully get down before it gets dark 😉 and recover. Repeat.
