There is only one Norrona LofotenIn 1977, Norrona was the first company in Europe to make a Goretex jacket and their experience shows in every detail. I grew up on Lake Superior where we get a wide range of 4 season weather, reaching below -35*C with an average snowfall of above 300cm in the winter.
I am 6'2" (188cm), 200lbs (91kg) and the reason I mention this is because the arm length of large jackets usually ends up between my wrist and forearm, and too short on my waist and lower back. I often have to wear an x-large to fit my arms but the body ends up being a parachute around my mid-section. My large Norrona Lofoten fits me more comfortably than any other coat I have ever worn, with room for professional layering underneath. I have done MANY comparisons and this is the only coat I've worn that fits as if it was tailor made for me, that still incorporates each and everyone of its fine intricacies.
It is lighter than competitor jackets that don't have as many features and although the details indicate a lack of stretch I find this coat to be considerable less stiff and rigid than competitors. It feels strong and that has instilled confidence in me from the beginning, unlike competitors that feel as though you're going to tear through them or rip at the seams while putting them on. I love how the cuffs come down to cover the back of my hands, to help keep them dry in wet conditions and keep the wind off of them. I owned a north face guide jacket that tried to incorporate this feature some years ago but it definitely didn't work out as well. I also love having wrist gaiters and in my opinion too few jackets incorporate this feature, not to worry with the Lofoten. I like the chest pocket placement because I can access them while wearing my backpack and the tethered google cleaner is a nice touch.
The only thing I wish it had was two waist line hand pockets. However I'm not disappointed it doesn't incorporate them, because for everything the Lofoten does have its a small sacrifice to make. I believe anyone looking at high end gear of this caliber will quickly understand that no one jacket will have every thing, but this is by far the one with the most! Everyone seems to have a favourite piece of clothing, that helps them feel protected, secure and comfortable, for me this garment exemplifies that. I look forward to wearing it every chance I can and it comes with me everywhere I go. To an outdoors person, the ability to make fire is one of the most important, ready to go beside my fire starter is my Norrona Lofoten!

Best Jacket everI bought the jacket 4 years ago.
But I don't ski. At all.
I use it every single day on day life activity since I've bought it.
It's like a second skin for me.
I'm a professionnal photographer, and I'm outside very often.
I also hike a lot.
This jacket is my best protection against all type of weather.
It's very light, I can wear it during summer in a hard windy day near ocean. When the weather is too hot, the jacket doesn't take much space in a bag.
But I can also use it when it's raining a lot, even if I can't find anything better than an umbrella to protect myself from the rain (to be honest I was a little desapointed the first time I've been using it under hard long rain, I imagined that I would not be wet at all - that was a bit silly to think).
During cold winter, if you wear good clothes under the jacket, it's the perfect protection with the hood. Even when you are static.
When you are active, sweat is not a big problem with the gore tex shell AND the large openings under the arms.
Last but not least : I use the jacket nearly 300 days a year for 4 years.
Of course, some parts are (just a little) bit worn out. But this jacket is very resistant.
A few weeks ago the zipper just broke.
So I wrote Norrona in order to know what to do.
A new zipper has been sent to me. Repair just finished. Totally fits with the jacket.
Just so happy to be able to wear it again...

Great fit with S sizeVery good jacket, fitted me well with a height of 174cm. Arms a little long which is good, zippers, both powder skirt and / or connector to Norrona pants works very good. Felt nice with a synthetic base layer, warm fleece and this jacket while moving with -5 to -15C. With wool base layer it would be perfect. Outlook of a jacket is also very good and I use to pack it into it's own hood which sits well in a backpack.
Also tried it on a bike and works well with a temperature to +5-+15 with no issue of feeling hot.
So, really good product for all the seasons.

Great experienceI bought it one month ago and I had big mountain adventure with my new jacket: protective and strong, this is a very good shell. Only the zip, sometimes not always run easily.

The snowslider from
Best Jacket I've ever ownedI've had this jacket for over a month now and used it in all types of weather, rain, wet snow, dry snow, and howling winds, and it keeps you dry and warm. The jacket sheds water and breathes extremely well. The pit zips are huge and allow air to flow through keeping you from overheating. The zippers move easily, don't get hung up or caught on anything, and can be used with gloves. I don't normally use hoods much, but on my last trip, the snow turned to rain as I was skinning up, so the hood came on. It was easily adjusted and it didn't restrict my vision.
The biggest selling point for me is the fit. I'm 6'3", 210 (1,9m 95kg) with wide shoulders and a narrow waist. I bought an XL and this coat fits me in perfectly in the shoulders, has long sleeves, and isn't too large for my waist.

Brilliant jacket! So very happy with this jacket, I have had one for 5 years now with was a hand me down from a friend who had had it 5 years prior to that, its 10 years old and whilst now seen better days as I have managed to rip it in 3 places (and repair it) its still exceptional! I have bought the updated version now having been so pleased with this one. Well worth the cost!

Hi, have you changed the sizing of your jackets in the last few years? I used to take L but looking at size guide I would now be M (6', 75kg)
Asked by: root
Our size guide is general for all products and the fit and sizing differs a bit from produt to product based on the intended functionality and usage of the product. For this shell jacket it is made to go with the layering system of three layers below, and possibility to add a down/primaloft layer inside the jacket for the coldest conditions. Therefore the fit is made a bit roomy for this. So you should go for M size in this product. It can be a good thing to look at the size/fit information per product on the reviews from other users of the jacket to get an understanding of the size/fit of each product in our online store.
Sorry for late answer.

Hello, is the Gore-Tex used N40p or N80p? Cheers
Asked by: ZGCO
The outer fabric of the Norrøna lofoten Gore-Tex Pro jacket has a denier of 70. The pants have a denier of 200.
On trollveggen Gore-Tex Pro jacket it is a denier of 80 and on the trollveggen Gore-Tex Pro light it is a denier of 40.
Hope this answers your question the way you wanted.
