% of cotton products being made by certified organic cotton or reprocessed cotton
We will only use certified organic cotton or reprocessed fabric in our products. Organic cotton is grown without the use of any synthetic agricultural chemicals such as fertilizers or pesticides. Its production also promotes and enhances biodiversity and biological cycles.
Only textile products that contain a minimum of 70% organic fibers can become GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified, and this will apply to all Norrøna’s cotton products. All chemical inputs such as dyestuffs and auxiliaries used must meet certain environmental and toxicological criteria. A functional waste water treatment plant is mandatory for any wet-processing unit involved and all processors must comply with minimum social criteria.
Conventional cotton production uses more chemicals per unit area than any other crop and accounts in total for 10-16% of the world's pesticides. Achieving this goal will prevent harmful pesticides from being used, reduce pollution downstream and reduce water usage required in our supply chain. It is a good goal for everyone from the grower of cotton to the user of the product.
In 2016 all Norrøna cotton products was made using organic cotton.
- All cotton fabrics used in any Norrøna products have a legitimate 3rd party verification that it is either following GOTS or OCS 100 certification, This actual number will be measured against our yearly goal.
