Product rating on outer layers

Waterproof rating

6.

Our most waterproof products which will keep you dry regardless of the weather. They have taped seams, durable membrane and will keep you protected through an entire day of demanding weather. The products are durable and will keep their functionality for years if you make sure to maintain the products. The products are engineered for maximum protection and have passed the extensive Storm test by Gore-Tex.

5.
Waterproof products that will keep you dry during heavy rain. However, if you’re out for many hours in extensive rain and wind, they will provide less protection than category 6, and you may get wet in very exposed areas. They are lighter than our most waterproof garments and will, therefore, feel a bit colder if you’re out in bad weather for a longer period of time.

4.
Hybrid products with partly waterproof constructions in exposed areas. The waterproof reinforcements will withstand a good amount of drizzle before you feel wet and have been treated with durable water repellent.

3.
Synthetics, down and microfiber products that have been treated with durable water repellent. They will withstand a few minutes of moderate rain before they begin to feel wet but will also dry quickly. If worn outside in the winter, they will not absorb moisture and light snow. By using impregnation, this feeling will be retained.

2.
Cotton and natural fiber products that have been treated with durable water repellent. Will withstand small amounts of rain. If worn outside in the winter, they will not absorb that much moisture. If it is re-impregnated, moisture will pull less upwards and inwards.

1.
Cotton products that are not impregnated which will absorb water.

Windproof rating

6.
Products which protects against extreme wind and conditions, both through the construction of the garment and the taped and windproof membrane. These products have a stiffer fabric which provides a greater shield effect as it will not adhere to the mid-layer / body in the same way as lighter fabrics. This is especially efficient in temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius where the “wind chill” effect is increasing.

5.
100% windproof products, but slightly lighter and less rugged than category 6. Keeps you protected from the wind except under extremely demanding conditions with very strong wind and cold temperatures. Due to the lighter constructions, these outer layers will lay closer to the body and not provide the same shield performance as category 6.

4.
Provides good wind protection in fresh to strong breeze if the temperature is not below 0 degrees Celsius. These products do not have a waterproof membrane but may have reinforced areas. They will, however, hold a lot of wind, but by being stagnant or not having insulation layers underneath, strong winds and temperatures below 5 degrees will give cold spots.

3.
Products with some wind protection. With proper layering below, these products will feel windproof and comfortable in good walking pace in a fresh breeze above 0 degrees Celsius.

2.
Products in this category provide some wind protection but are first and foremost made to provide good ventilation. Intended for activities with higher intensity, where we want the products to breathe very well yet provide some wind protection. Offer sufficient protection during higher intensity in a fresh breeze and above 0 degrees Celsius. Some garments may have asymmetrical wind protection e.g. protection against travel direction. Requires good layering.

Durability rating

6.
The most durable outer layers within our entire product range also providing good durability in relation to weight. Made in our extremely strong fabrics and design for extensive use under demanding conditions. Will pass 150 full days of active use – which is considered the average lifetime for outerwear and continue to keep you protected for years and years if maintained well.

5.
Outer layers which tolerate though use over excessive time. With a little care and love, they will last for many, many years. Most of our 3-layers belong to this category and will cover any need for an intermediate to active outdoor lifestyle.

4.
Durable yet pretty lightweight outer layers. Suitable for versatile outdoor use.

3.
Lightweight outer layers that offer impressive durability compared to weight. Withstands normal outdoor use.

2.
Outer layers made in lightweight fabrics. Requires some caution when used, as these products are more are more prone to damage caused by twigs, branches, and sharp stones.

1.
Products not suitable for active outdoor use.

Insulation rating

6.
Our warmest outer layers with a comfort temperature ranging from - 10 to - 30 degrees Celsius, made to keep you warm during chill breaks or low-intensity activities. If you’re active, you stay warm even below the comfort temperature, but remember that strong wind will increase the effective outside temperature due to the wind chill effect. Classic winter jackets for really cold winter days both on and off the mountains.

5.
Will keep you warm and comfortable - 5 to - 20 degrees Celsius during breaks and low levels of activity. Slightly less puffed look and feel than category 6 but will manage to keep you warm in lower temperatures if active.

4.
Has a comfort temperature of - 0 to - 15 degrees Celsius during breaks and low levels of activity. Will provide very good insulations worn as mid-layer underneath a shell jacket.

3.
Will keep your warm during breaks or at low-intensity activity in +5 to -10 degrees Celsius. Can be used alone and provide some heat when there’s no wind.

2.
Stay warm during breaks or take some activity at +15 to 0 degrees Celsius. Not very insulating but made in materials that provide some insulation properties due to air pockets in the fabrics.

1.
Has no insulating properties but can still work well on top of insulation layers and provide heat through wind protection. Thin one-layer fabrics, often super packable and lightweight shell products. Will feel cold during wind if you don’t have any layering underneath.

Lightweight rating

6.
Among the world's lightest outer layers, pushed the limits of how light a product can be without sacrificing any functionality. Premium pack light products with the intention of being world leading within its category.

5.
Among the lightest outer layers within its segment, with slightly better protective properties compared to category 6.

4.
Light, but durable products made in the sweet spot between optimal lightweight, protection, and durability. Most of our shell products place here.

3.
Not particularly lightweight, but the functionality and details of the products will make up for this.

2.
Fairly heavy but with a purpose. Probably a winner in terms of durability and other product properties. A bit heavy based on our categorization, but still relatively lightweight compared to similar products.

1.
Outer layers that are heavier than they have to. We have no products in this category.

Breathability rating

6.
Our most breathable and moisture wicking outer layers which also provide some protection. Breathes extremely well and provides good sweat transportation even during high-intensity activities, but if the temperature and activity level is very high then you may experience some moisture (this rate naturally correlates with the degree of protection as well). Will perform optimal moisture transportation when it’s around 10 – 15 degrees Celsius.

5.
Outer layers which offer effective moisture transportation, good breathability, and quick drying properties. Ventilates well and provides good sweat transportation during medium to high-intensity activities.

4.
Our most breathable outer layers with good protective properties. Provides sufficient and effective moisture transportation during medium intensity but will require use of extra ventilation e.g. under arms during high activity.

3.
Offers sufficient breathability at medium intense activities. Requires active use of ventilation and airing-options. This is the standard of classic Gore-Tex and membrane fabrics.

2.
With a medium or high intensity level, condensation will occur on the inside. The garment is suitable for use at low intensity or during breaks. Most of our down belongs in this category due to down proof fabrics.

1.
Outer layers with very little to no breathability. We have no products in this category.
