Elimination of fluorcarbons from our products

Norrøna wants to eliminate the use of fluorocarbons in our products.

Our goal is to remove all fluorocarbons from our products while still providing our customers with the protection required from the weather. It is crucial to find an alternative that is safe and environmentally friendly, and that have the same or better performance than PFC. We are working to reduce the use of PFC with the ambition of eliminating PFC from our products by the end of 2020.

We have removed all long chain perfluorinated compounds from our products. We are now testing alternatives to replace the current shorter chain durable water repellant (DWR) finishes that are still in our products

We tried using a PFAS free DWR for two of our products, the fjørå flex1 pants and shorts, but we experienced piling issues and we had to change back to a C6 formula. Because of this we expect to see a decrease in 2017. In 2016 we increased the percentage of waterproof and water resistant garments without PFC slightly, and we are continuing our work to reach 100%.

  • Annual report that lists our waterproof/water resistant fabrics with the percentage using non- PFC finishes and percentage still containing PFC finishes.
