Review Summary
Updated January 9, 2026
The Senja Econyl70 15L Pack is primarily recommended for cross-country skiing and running, where its ability to sit tight and ride well is highly valued.
Great futures and a lot of space for different things

Happy with the product in general, however, when full it pulls a bit on the shoulders. Missing a feature for "pulling" the pack a bit up on the back.

Disappointing design

I should have done my homework. I wanted a higher volume version of the genius Senja 7L. All Norrona needed to do was add a larger volume main compartment with a compression cinch. This is not that.
The Senja 7L has the best rear pole carry in the biz. There is no rear pole carry on the Senja 15L. How to use the new front/side pole carry on this vest effectively remains a mystery to me. Especially given my use case of carrying a camera for wildlife photography in alpine settings. The soft flask pockets have changed so Norrona 500ml flasks will not stay in place. They sink deep into the new larger pockets. This is a self-goal of major proportions. It is extra annoying because you have to buy flasks separately for this vest (a change from the 7L which came with them). I made the mistake of ordering Norrona flasks after the fact. I'm now shopping for flasks that work better with this pack.. There is a new lower side zipper that accesses the bottom part of the main compartment. It is not needed because the primary zipper - like the one on the 7L - provides great access to the main compartment. Most of us likely do not have the dexterity to use the new side zip without unhitching the pack. While not useful for access, the new side zip seems destined to let smaller items fall out. I may stitch it shut.
The new external quick-grab lower rear pocket will likely have fans. It is light and stretchy and will hold a lightweight shell, etc. for ready access. I’m not likely to use it - but it seems well thought out for what it is. The cinches for volume adjustment of the main compartment are passable enough and get that job done.
The vest is well made and rides well. The main compartment is big enough, and properly shaped, to hold more insulation layers and some extra gear (no longer need to trade off spikes vs puffy…). Don’t underestimate the shape part because there are competing products that claim similar volume but have it in nooks and crannies that are not usable. In this regard the 15L meets its higher volume mission well.
One more thing: I'd love an XXL size option in an update that goes back to the 7L design approach. I can use the L/XL size. But for people my size, an XXL option would. be nice - and would likely make the stretch side pockets more accessible.

Great backpack for running and xc skiing

When cross country skiing I need the backpack to sit tight - even with ski wax , bottle of water, and change of clothes. It’s perfect for me
