Review Summary
Updated July 21, 2026

The Norrøna 500ml Soft Flask is a compact and flexible hydration solution designed for active individuals. Its standout features include its highly flexible and secure design, allowing it to be easily stowed in pockets without bulk. The "stay-locked" nozzle ensures no leaks, a crucial aspect for preventing damage to gear or clothing.

Based on the reviews, the main activity this product is recommended for is skiing. Users appreciate its ability to serve as a perfect backup water supply, fitting securely and discreetly in pockets until needed. Beyond skiing, it has also been successfully used for carrying gels during long-distance bike races, highlighting its versatility for various endurance sports where compact and secure liquid storage is essential.

In terms of fit and comfort, the soft flask's flexible nature allows it to conform to the body or pocket, making it unobtrusive. Its secure design prevents movement and spillage, contributing to overall comfort during activity.

However, a significant criticism raised is the persistent and "horrendous plastic taste" that some users experience. Despite attempts to mitigate this through soaking, the taste and smell can render the bottle unusable for some, particularly for plain water. This issue, attributed to the materials used by Hydrapak (the manufacturer), is a major drawback for those sensitive to off-flavors in their hydration.

In conclusion, the Norrøna 500ml Soft Flask is recommended for skiers and endurance athletes who prioritize a compact, secure, and flexible hydration or gel storage solution for backup or supplementary use. It's ideal for those who need a discreet option that won't leak or add bulk. However, potential customers should be aware of the reported issue with a persistent plastic taste, which could be a deal-breaker for individuals who are sensitive to such flavors, especially when using it for water. It might be a better option for flavored drinks or gels where the taste might be less noticeable.

I used the bottle during a trail marathon, and it was excellent! Unfortunately, a bottle from another brand wouldn't open at a refill station. But I could count on this one.

Horrendous plastic taste persists!

Of course this is a fault with Hydrapak and the materials they use, but since this bottle is Nørrona branded and was bought from this website I'll have to post a review here. Do not buy this bottle! The plastic taste this bottle gives off is absolutely disgusting and even after a half dozen overnight soaks in vinegar and baking soda the taste (and smell) persist, rendering the bottle unusable. Because what could be worse after a sweaty run than pouring the most artificial, plastic and synthetic tasting water down your throat? Exactly.
