Review Summary
Updated February 24, 2026

The Norrøna Lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Anorak is a highly-regarded, durable shell jacket designed for demanding outdoor activities.

Standout Features: This anorak boasts an impressive array of features. Its Gore-Tex Pro construction ensures exceptional windproof and waterproof protection while remaining lightweight. A key highlight is the extensive zipper system, including a two-way front zipper, full-length side zippers, and a half-zip, which significantly eases entry and exit (a common anorak challenge) and provides excellent ventilation. The anorak offers numerous well-placed pockets, including a large kangaroo pocket, Napoleon chest pockets, and an arm pocket, providing ample storage. The adjustable hood is helmet-compatible and effectively keeps out rain and snow. It also features built-in thumbhole cuffs to seal out drafts and snow, a removable powder skirt, and a flattering, longer length that offers extra warmth and coverage.

Common Use-Cases and Main Activity: Based on the reviews, the Lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Anorak is primarily recommended for skiing, including resort skiing, backcountry touring, and splitboarding. Reviewers frequently mention its suitability for various snow-related activities, highlighting its performance in cold, windy, and snowy conditions. Beyond skiing, it's also highly praised for hiking in windy and rainy conditions, mountaineering, and general outdoor activities. Some users even find it versatile enough for everyday wear and hunting.

Fit and Comfort Level: The anorak generally offers a slim, athletic fit that is cut closer to the body compared to some other Norrøna jackets (like the Trollveggen). While some reviewers found it to be a "perfect fit" and "comfortable," others noted it runs small in size, recommending sizing up for those who prefer a more relaxed fit or wish to wear bulkier layers underneath. The longer length is a popular feature, providing good coverage without restricting movement, especially for taller individuals. The extensive zippers contribute to comfort by allowing for excellent ventilation during strenuous activities.

Criticisms and Areas for Improvement: The most significant criticism revolves around durability, particularly when wearing a backpack. Several users reported wear and tear, blistering, and even holes forming on the lower back, often attributed to the interaction between backpack hip straps and the internal snow gaiter's metal zipper. This suggests a potential design flaw in the reinforcement of the fabric in high-friction areas. Another minor point of contention is the inherent nature of an anorak, which can still be slightly more challenging to get in and out of compared to a full-zip jacket, despite the extensive zippers. Some also found the hood to be "slightly too small" to comfortably go over a ski helmet, contradicting other reviews that praised its helmet compatibility. The zippers under the armpits were also noted by a few as potentially rubbing or being difficult to close.

Recommendation: The Norrøna Lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Anorak is highly recommended for avid skiers, snowboarders, and backcountry enthusiasts who prioritize exceptional weather protection, thoughtful features, and a stylish, athletic fit. It's also an excellent choice for hikers and mountaineers facing challenging, wet, and windy conditions. This product is ideal for those who value performance and are willing to invest in a premium shell, but potential buyers who frequently wear heavy backpacks should be aware of the reported durability issues in specific areas.

First: the features: zippers in all the right places that do all the right things. 2 way in the front and on the sides. Kangaroo pocket AND Napolean chest pockets AND arm pocket so you can store your stuff wherever it suits you. Hood: adjustable and big enough to fit over helmet for skiing and keep the rain out when wearing as a rain jacket around town. Bonus: I can wear my hair up and still wear a hood without it smushing when I actually have to not look like a drowned rat on rainy or windy days. Length: flattering. long enough to keep you toasty in the wind and the zippers allow you to move without feeling confined. The sleeves have built in thumbhole cuffs to keep out drafts and snow. There's a removable powder skirt to keep out snow on the slopes but not add extra bulk when wearing as a raincoat at other times. This thing is windproof and waterproof and has a flattering slim silhouette. Gore tex is an amazing product for its lightweight waterproof durability. For comparison, I have a S Trollveggen and I swim in it. The trollveggen is a much looser fit and can fit bulkier layers under, which it is made for. The lofoton is cut closer to the body so for me bulky layers will not work (but I also ordered the xs in this jacket). For reference I am 5'2 and fluctuate between 110-120 lbs, athletic build 32-27-35 I found it easy to get in and out of by unzipping the sides all the way up and unzipping the 1/2 zip. That being said, it is a shell with no insulation so cold days will necessitate a base and mid layer (love it with my falketind down hooded jacket). There really is not anything that I don't like about this coat and I have probably 20 other ones that now just hang in my closet as this is my go-to.

Really nice jacket. Perfect for skiing. I was a little worried about the complexity of an anorak jacket but this one has full side zippers. It’s relatively easy to get on and off. T plenty of pockets and super windproof. Also a great color!
