Our lightest and most packable down jacket.

This premium down jacket is made for mountaineering but is suitable for a wide range of outdoor activities. You can use it both as a mid-layer and outer layer, making it a 4-season garment.

It’s made with a premium aeroDownproof face fabric to provide weather protection, lightweight and soft touch, and filled with first-class, certified down which offers excellent insulation at a low weight.

The main fabric is a high-tech, windproof, and extremely light 100% recycled 7D Nylon material made in Japan. It offers great packability and is durable for its weight. To achieve an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio, the jacket is filled with high-quality, RDS-certified 850 goose down (70g in men's L/60g in women's M)

Key features include two hand pockets, a high and protective collar, elastic bottom hem and cuffs, and an exterior hang loop.

The jacket has a technical fit with a longer cut in the back for extra protection. The Y-shaped fit ensures good mobility. To ensure an even and lasting distribution of down, it’s tightly quilted.

Review Summary
Updated May 20, 2026

The Trollveggen Superlight Down850 Jacket is a highly acclaimed, exceptionally lightweight, and warm down jacket designed for versatile use. Its standout features include an outstanding warmth-to-weight ratio, making it incredibly efficient at providing insulation despite its minimal bulk. It utilizes 850-fill power down for superior warmth and is constructed with recycled fabrics, RDS down, and bluesign certification, highlighting its sustainable design. The jacket is also praised for its packability, often described as compressing down to "almost nothing," "a tennis ball," or a "miniature package," making it easy to carry.

The main activity this product is recommended for is skiing and ski touring, including freeride skiing, downhill skiing, and cross-country skiing. Reviewers frequently mention using it as a mid-layer under a shell jacket for these activities, highlighting its effectiveness in cold conditions and its ability to provide warmth without bulk.

Beyond skiing, the jacket is highly versatile and suitable for a wide range of activities. It excels as an insulating layer for hiking, alpine climbing, and general mountain activities. Its packability makes it ideal for travel and daily wear, serving as a "grab & go" piece for unexpected cold snaps. Many users also appreciate its comfort and style for casual wear in autumn, spring, and even cool summer evenings. It's also been used for cycling, hunting, and even night sailing.

In terms of fit and comfort, the jacket is generally described as having a good, comfortable, and athletic/slim fit, often allowing for easy layering. Reviewers note it "fits perfectly" and "follows your movements." Some taller individuals found the fit excellent, with sufficient sleeve and back length.

While overwhelmingly positive, some criticisms and areas for improvement were noted: Durability: The "really thin fabric" (7D main fabric) raises concerns about its long-term durability, with some users feeling it's "fragile" or "delicate." While no significant damage was reported, this is a recurring apprehension. Lack of Pockets: Several reviewers wished for an inner breast pocket or an outer breast pocket for convenience, especially for items like phones or travel tickets. Zipper Quality: One review mentioned the zipper could be higher quality and noted it sometimes catches on the neck flap. Feather Leakage: A few users reported feathers escaping, which can be a common issue with down products. Arm Flexibility: One reviewer found the arms not flexible enough for activities requiring extensive arm movement like climbing or working with ropes. Quality Control: A single review mentioned poor stitching and a color dye spot, indicating a potential isolated quality control issue.

In conclusion, the Trollveggen Superlight Down850 Jacket is highly recommended for individuals seeking an extremely lightweight, warm, and packable down jacket, primarily for skiing and ski touring as a mid-layer. Its versatility also makes it an excellent choice for hikers, climbers, and anyone needing a reliable insulating layer for various outdoor activities or even for stylish everyday wear in cooler conditions. It's particularly suited for those who prioritize warmth-to-weight ratio and sustainability, and who are willing to be mindful of the delicate outer fabric for maximum longevity.

I love this jacket. In combination with my Falketind Gore-Tex Paclite Jacket, it's a perfect match. So light and warm and multi-use, as I'm using it as a pillow filling too. It's delicate material, so not really bushcraft proof, but in combination with the earlier mentioned waterproof jacket it is. The best light, warm and waterproof set ever!

Perfect piece when covering for a day that might be or get colder than you thought. Super light and great fitting. Replaced my Patagonia light which is heavy compared to it and not any warmer. Also love the bright yellow color that my wife says still works with a 70 year old frame.

This jacket is the perfect balance of warmth and weight. It’s incredibly lightweight and packs down to almost nothing, making it my go-to for travel and daily wear. Despite being so thin, it does a great job of cutting the chill. Highly recommend
