Editor: Eivind Eidslott

Eivind grew up in Norway’s Sunnmørsalpene mountains and was shaped by that background. He’d prefer to be in the mountains at all times, and likes to write about his experiences afterwards. At age 19, he was named editor of the Norwegian Trekking Association’s membership magazine ‘Ut,’ which means ‘Out.’ At age 21, he and his friend Anders Waage Nilsen founded the Norwegian ski magazine Fri Flyt. Between 2000 and 2008, he was editor of national newspaper Dagbladet’s magazine sections FREDAG (Friday) and Søndag (Sunday). He left Oslo-based Dagbladet to become editor of Norrøna Magazine, a brand new international outdoor magazine. “Clearly, a dream job,” says Eivind about the post. In addition to trekking around in the wilderness for Norrøna Magazine, Eivind also writes books for children and about the outdoors, such as “Skiguide til Norge” (Ski Guide to Norway) and "Fjellbarna - guiden til familiefriluftsliv året rundt" (Mountain Child – The guide to year round outdoor family activities).

Photo editor: Chris Holter

Chris
is a very talented
photographer who helped develop Norrøna’s Whiteout concept at the start of the new millennium. In recent years, he has been marketing manager for Norrøna, with responsibility for all marketing, public relations, brochures and the Web. Chris has played a crucial role for Norrøna Magazine in coordinating photographers, designers, reprographic studios, and printers. Luckily, Chris also wants to do some of the photography himself, so readers can often enjoy his magical images from Norway and the world. Chris is also the man behind most of the pictures for Norrøna Magazine’s portraits of well-known outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen.

Contributors

Nina Ruud

Nina is one of Norway’s most widely-traveled freelance photographers. Her trademark is images with rich and pleasing colors, which she uses to document people’s lives for a variety of Norwegian magazines and newspapers.
This summer, she took up the challenge and joined journalist Solveig Schanke Eikum on a
fantastic trek through Aurlandsdalen
Jørn H. Moen

Jørn is a staff photographer for Dagbladet Magasinet, a major Norwegian newspaper’s
magazine section. He photographs everything from heads of state and pop stars to life in rural Norway. But Jørn is also an enthusiastic outdoorsman, and a passionate fly fisherman. In recent years, he has taken pictures for several books on the outdoors, and is a regular contributor to Norrøna Magazine.
Henning Reinton

Henning has a Master’s degree in literature and several years as a journalist, copy editor and music critic at Oslo’s Dagbladet newspaper. Add to that one year at Harvard and he is now head of communications for Greenpeace Norway. A climber and Telemark skier, Henning Reinton is a very versatile man, and we are lucky to have him as a journalist on
our team.
Mattias Fredriksson

This Swede needs very little introduction. As many readers already know, Mattias is
one of the world’s best ski photographers. His magical photos appear in all of the great ski magazines. He is on friendly terms with the best skiers in every country, and has a huge productive capacity. Over the winter, he travelled to Borgafjäll, in Sweden, for Norrøna Magazine issue 4.

Torkel Karoliussen

Say hello to the professional Telemark skier who also leads Norrøna’s team. Torkel rarely
sits still. For years he has travelled the world, searching out the best snow and the
best surfing waves. In issue 4 of Norrøna Magazine, Torkel is featured both behind the notebook and in front of the camera, having travelled for us to Japan and Sweden.

Sverre Hjørnevik

We were very happy that Sverre could go to the Sunnmøre Alps in February for Norrøna Magazine Issue 4. Sverre has shown himself to be one of Norway’s most talented ski and nature photographers, and he has nothing against covering 1,200 vertical metres a day on randonnée skis, while lugging photo bags, to capture the best moments. See the wonderful
results on page 30.

Joachim Førsund

Joachim is a rare blend of talents. After several years as a journalist and editor at a national newspaper, he’s made a career as a freelance
journalist, an author and the director of several popular TV series. His latest book is soon to be developed as a feature film by Zentropa of Denmark. For Norrøna Magazine, Joachim recounts a week spent mountaineering in the
Jotunheimen range.

Hilde Bjørgås

Hilde is a new ambassador on the Norrøna team. She is a highly skilled mountain climber who has put in countless days on the steepest routes of Trondheim, Lofoten, Troms County and Yosemite National Park in the United States. Hilde will soon complete her engineering education in water and environmental technology. In this issue she writes about
big-wall climbing in Greenland last summer.

Geir Anders R. Ørslien

If Norway were to nominate a national mountain-biking guru, Geir Anders would probably get the honour. No one else has written so much or so well about Norwegian mountain biking in the past 15 years. Geir Anders helped start the important website www.terrengsykkel.no and spent 10 years at Dagbladet. In this issue he writes on Nelson,
British Columbia.

Alexander Urrang Hauge

Alexander is outdoor journalism’s answer to
Alexander Rybak, the Norwegian Eurovision Song Contest winner: He’s chock full of ideas and good cheer, and his way with words can easily be taken for music. Alexander has written for all the big Norwegian newspapers.
For us, he profiles the polar hero Børge Ousland and skis the Dolomites. And much
more besides.

Solveig Schanke Eikum

Solveig is one of Norway’s best travel journalists. She has travelled everywhere from the
Australian outback to Kyrgyzstan, sending
enthusiastic reports home. While keeping up her travels, Solveig now works as an editor for the Norwegian website www.etiskforbruk.no. For
Norrøna Magazine she accompanies the youth
wing of the Norwegian Trekking Association on a winter course to the Hardanger Plateau.

Kari Medig

After several years of work for newspapers in Vancouver, the Canadian photographer Kari
Medig set off to follow his dream. Now he travels the mountain ranges of the world, taking pictures for high-quality ski and mountainbike magazines. In 2008 he won the prestigious Olympus Pro Photographer’s Showdown in
Whistler. Prepare to delight in Kari’s images from Lyngen and Sunnmøre, published in this issue.

Frode Sandbech

Frode, from Oslo, is senior photographer at Norway’s largest skiing and snowboarding magazine, Fri Flyt. Not only that: He is also senior photographer at Transworld, the world’s largest snowboarding magazine. His pictures appear in prestigious publications the world over. For issue 2 of Norrøna Magazine Frode has been to Svalbard and Voss as well as Chamonix, France.

Randi Fuglehaug

Randi grew up in the extreme-sport city
of Voss, Norway, but chose a more urban lifestyle. After journalism studies, she went
to work for Norway’s two largest newspapers, VG and Dagbladet. Now she freelances
from New York, with the whole world as her beat. For this issue of the magazine she
met the rising stars of extreme sport during Ekstremsportveko in her hometown.

Anders Waage Nilsen

Anders and the current editor of Norrøna Magazine founded the skiing-and-snowboarding
magazine Fri Flyt in 1998. After several years in charge at Fri Flyt he turned to the travel and tourism industry and found new success. At Norrøna Magazine he’s back to journalism and photography – this time on a kayak trip with his wife, Hilde.
